The Auction Films team has enjoyed many years of experience within the fine arts industry and this is reflected in our approach and passion for every project commissioned.
Nick Waite BA(Hons) Media, BJTC
Nick is a double Royal Television Society award winning producer and former broadcast professional, having worked extensively for both the BBC and ITV.
He studied Media in Exeter where he achieved a first class honours degree and went on to study Broadcast Journalism in Falmouth.
Nick set up Waite Films Ltd, his own production company, in 2010 and has been working on documentary feature commissions, creative video projects, and event coverage ever since.
Nick oversees every Auction Films commission and shares Alex’s passion in the fine arts.
Alex Tonkinson BA(Hons) Art History
After studying Art History in Exeter, Alex moved back to St Ives, helping to set up modern design gallery Tremayne Applied Arts with his parents Roger and Anne Tonkinson. He then worked in Cornerstone Gallery for 2 years before a return to Bath in 2005 where Alex joined Bonhams Auctioneers.
At Bonhams, he assisted Patrick Toynbee with the Wales and West Country Sales and had an active role in the picture department, cataloguing and hanging the sales.
A move to Salisbury meant a new job at Woolley and Wallis, primarily portering and also carrying out condition reports on studio ceramics and becoming Saleroom Manager until setting up his own consultancy business, St Ives Modern, in 2011.
Since then Alex has worked with various auction houses, cataloguing and sourcing items for sale, and also standing at fairs.
He joined forces with former University friend Nick in 2013 to produce the occasional film commission and Auction Films was officially launched in 2015.
